Upcoming event...
celebration of World Sickle Cell Day 2014

Sicklecell Association of Uganda in conjunction with the Inter – Religious Council will hold an inter-religious service that will be hosted by Namirembe cathedral on the 28th August 2014. The service will begin at 3.00 pm and run to 5.00 pm. The theme for this year is “Sicklecell disease is not a race disease that is why it is cell –a – brated all over the World”.

As an Association, over the years we have worked with key stakeholders such as patients and families, Ministry Of Health, Ministry of Labour, Gender and Social Development and the media in the fight against Sicklecell disease. This year we felt it necessary to bring on Board other stakeholders like religions that play a key role in the society for instance they wed couples, they counsel families and they reach out to a multitude of people hence the need to join hands in the fight against sicklecell disease.

Many marriages have broken up because of Sicklecell disease and the majority of men put the blame on women. Couples should be encouraged to test for Sicklecell disease before marriage and giving birth to children in order to make informed decisions.

We appeal to the entire community of Uganda to be part of this service.
